Since most of the city’s development over the three decades shifted towards the eastern side, Gulshan-e-Iqbal eventually became the strategic center of the metropolis. The development work in this area started back in the 70s and now it stands as one of the most well-developed and populous areas in the city. Gulshan-e-Iqbal was initially planned to have over 20 blocks but some were later merged into one block while others were divided into sub-blocks.
The neighborhood primarily caters to the middle to the high-income working class, but some of the blocks offer the affordable residence for lower-income families as well. The town was named after Pakistan’s national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal it literally translates to ‘Iqbal’s Garden’.
Gulshan e Iqbal is a largely urban area situated on the eastern side of Karachi featuring both residential and commercial properties.
